Driers

Desiccants are catalysts for the drying of paints and varnishes made on the basis of synthetic resins, vegetable oils and other binders cured by oxidative polymerisation.

In the usual case, these are salts of certain metals and organic acids with long hydrocarbon chains.
BIOLAR produces single-metal and mixed driers of various concentrations.

Single metal dessicants

Product name Colour Mass fraction of non-volatile substances (%) Metal content (%) Application
Cobalt (Co) 10% Red purple ≥59 10.0 – 10.5 The most active desiccant. Rapid film formation. For surface enamels. For white and light paintwork.
Manganese (Mn) 8% Brown ≥47 8.0 – 8.2 The most active desiccant. Rapid film formation. For surface enamels. For white and light paintwork.
Zinc (Zn) 10% 50 ≥50 10.0 – 10.5 Auxiliary desiccant. Activates a mixture of manganese and lead driers. For alkyd-urethane systems in combination with cobalt and zirconium desiccants.
Zirconium (Zr) 12% 50 ≥50 12.0 – 12.5 Deep drying catalyst. Application in primers. In a short time, the achievement of the maximum value of the hardness of the coating.
Lead (Pb) 30% 50 ≥69 30.0 – 30.6 Drying of paints and varnishes along the thickness of the layer. Reducing the formation of cracks. Application in primers and materials containing active solvents.
Calcium (Ca) 5% 50 ≥46 5.0 – 5.4 Auxiliary desiccant. Allows to get active and most resistant to adsorption by pigments mixed driers. Improves wetting of pigments and fillers.

The possibility of producing other monometallic (mixed) desiccants with any ratio of metals on an individual order.

Desiccants allow to increase the drying speed of paints and varnishes. Depending on the selected desiccant and the type of paintwork material, this additive can improve the properties of the final product:

  • Promotes the rapid formation of a film on the surface of paintwork materials
  • Provides drying both on the surface of the film and in the depth of the layer
  • Promotes the drying of paints and varnishes along the thickness of the layer
  • Achievement of the maximum value of coating hardness in a short time
  • Increasing the hardness of paintwork materials
  • Provides drying of paintwork materials for several years from the date of manufacture
  • Provides drying of coatings in thick films
