2,2'-azobisisobutyronitrile (AIBN)
Olaine

2,2’- azobisisobutyronitrile (AIBN, AZDN, Porofore 57) is the best known azo initiators which are easy and safe to use in free radical polymerization catalyst in the processing temperature range of 45-90 ºC, a primary criterion in controlling polymerisation reactions.

2,2’- azobisisobutyronitrile decomposes by the absorption of thermal or photochemical energy into two free radicals and nitrogen. The rate of free radical formation can be controlled by regulating the temperature.

2,2’- azobisisobutyronitrile have low molecular mass. And freedom from side reactions, it is more efficient and economical for controlled polymerizations at low concentrations.

Produce linear chains which provide better control of polymerization.

The presence of additives does not affect its rate of decomposition into free radicals.

2,2’- azobisisobutyronitrile does not cause oxidative degradation and discoloration, generally associated with peroxides. This allows even transparent polymers to maintain their physical properties.

Can be use is a low temperature blowing agent for making cellular plastics.

APPLICATION

2,2’- azobisisobutyronitrile is usualy used in polymerisation reactions to reduce the residual monomer content or to initiate or terminate the polymerisation process. Also use for:

  • for the polymerization of monomers like vinyl chloride, vinyl acetate, ethylene, styrene, methyl methacrylate, etc.
  • as a chemical blowing agent for section rigid PVC foams when the processing temperature range is 100-120 ºC
  • as a initiator in manufacture of nytron fibre
  • for initiating of process of chlorination of dichloroethane
  • in the manufacture of silicone rubber foam
  • in the manufacture of acrylic sheet, bangles, tubes, rods etc.

2,2’- azobisisobutyronitrile produce in white powder, crystalline or granular form.

Biolar company produce some kinds of AIBN:

  • AIBN standard (powder)
  • AIBN Silicium (powder)
  • AIBN AL (powder)
  • AIBN Crystalline (crystalline)
  • AIBN Granular (Granular)
  • AIBN Paste (paste)
